WHAT IT MEANS TO EAT THE COLOURS OF THE RAINBOW
We are going back to basics. For reals. And not in a condescending way, all it means is we have gotten to caught up in all of the different ‘rules’ around eating.
To eat all of the colours of the rainbow, is to eat a varied, balanced and nutrient dense diet. If you have lots of colour on your plate, then you know you are getting plenty of good nutrition, and isn't that the basis of eating well? To nourish and fuel our bodies?
What eating the rainbow DOESN’T mean is to eat foods with brightly coloured labels and packaging. This is not the rainbow. I REPEAT, THIS IS NOT THE RAINBOW! If you are doing this then the only rainbow you are consuming is the one painted on a brick wall in a bd neighbourhood. Not nice.
Nature creates the most amazing colours, so why go for an imitation when you can have the real thing?
So while the emphasis is on lots of colour on your plate, it must be from fresh whole foods. Reducing the processed and refined food being consumed and increasing the fresh, raw (if possible), clean and vital food you are consuming.
Beetroot, spinach, pumpkin, dragon fruit…how amazing are those colours?
So next time you sit down for meal have a look at the colours on your plate. Is there 3 or more? If not, then have a think about what you can add to brighten up your plate. This not only encourages you to eat better, but also teaches you mindfulness around eating, and how what you put into your body impacts your health.
