CHOC SPIRULINA PROTEIN BOMBS

Ingredients

1 cup of dates, pitted

1/4-1/2 cup of raw cacao powder

1 tablespoon of maca power

1 tablespoon of mesquite powder

1 tablespoon of cacao nibs

3/4 cup of mixed nuts

1 tablespoon of linseeds

1 tablespoons of chia seeds

2 heaped tablespoons of protein powder

1 heaped teaspoon of spirulina or greens powder

sesame seeds to coat

Method:

Soak dates in boiling water for 10-20min, discard the water and blend on high.

A food processor works best but I made do with my high speed blender, it just takes a little more time and slightly more liquid to encourage it to mix.

Add the mixed nuts to the blender and continue to blend until as smooth as possible. Again I found this part challenging with a blender, and ended up with some chunks of nut throughout, and this is not necessarily a bad thing. If you want to get it super smooth and you don’t have a food processor I would blend the nuts prior and that will break them down a lot easier and finer.

The next part requires some elbow grease as I didn't have a food processor.

Scrape out the mixture thus far into a bowl and add all of the other ingredients, mixing through as you add so that you can get the desired consistency. You want the consistency to be firm enough that you can easily roll into a ball but moist enough that you don’t need a drink with every mouthful of the Choc Spirulina Bombs.

You will have noticed that I have put a varied amount of the cacao powder. This is for 2 reasons.

1. So you can determine how chocolately you want your bombs to be

and

2. So that you can easily manipulate the consistent of the mixture.

In saying that, you can also add some coconut oil or just water if they are to dry, or add extra protein powder if they are to liquid-y.

Once you are happy with your mixture roll into balls and roll in sesame seeds. Place in an air tight container in the fridge and they should keep for 1-2 weeks. My batch made approx 10 large balls

To make these extra special you could always make a raw chocolate coat for them. Combining raw cacao powder, cacao butter or oil and maple syrup and dipping the bombs in and then allowing to set in the fridge. On second though that sounds so ridiculously yummy, thats what I am doing for my next batch!

If you don't have some of the super foods in this recipe such as the maca and the mesquite powder substitute for spices like cinnamon and cardamon, to add extra flavour and nutrition to your balls.

I found these bombs were just that, they removed my sweet cravings, removed my fatigue, and kept me full in between meals. A winner all round!

Happy making!
