3 Easy Ways to Supercharge Your Diet - without having to make any life-altering changes.
1. Pimp your oats
If you enjoy your porridge then all you have to do is it keep on adding to it. It’s fine to add some honey to it but the way that we are going to boost the nutrition is to add lots of nuts, seeds and fresh fruit. I like to reduce the amount of oats that are in the bowl but add in almond, pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, chia, tahini (ground up sesame seeds) fresh banana, blue berries, pear, etc.
If you’re not a porridge person thats also fine. Adding any combination of these foods to any breakfast cereal can quickly boost up the nutritional value of any breakfast cereal.
2. Swap your fruit juice for a veggie juice
Love a good juice? Swapping it for a vegetable based juice will help to reduce the amount of sugar and boost the nutritional value of your beverage. This doesn't have to be a homemade juice. You can get store bought veggie juices that taste just as good as your standard fruit juice (Yes that’s right, don’t believe me just try some). Cutting out the excess sugar and increasing the vital nutrients like b group vitamins, vitamin C, calcium, magnesium and antioxidants to boot.
3. Season your meals with natural herbs and spices.
When you sit down for your evening meal, what do you add to it? Salt? Pepper? Maybe even tomato sauce or chicken salt? Swapping these condiments and seasonings for more natural alternatives not only makes your food taste great, but adds a wide variety of nutrients to your dish. Herbs and spices contain antioxidants and phytonutrients that can even aid in the absorption of other nutrients from your meal. Swapping your table salt for an unprocessed unrefined seal/celtic/Himalayan salt will boost up the mineral profile of your meal, being rich in iodine, calcium, magnesium and zinc. Experimenting with different spice combinations is a fun way to spice up your diet (excuse the pun) and helps to bring out the natural flavours of the foods that your eating, rather than masking the flavour (thats right mr ‘tomato sauce goes with everything’)
