Lacking energy? You might need a top up of these nutrients

B Vitamins

Ahh B vitamins. One of my favourites! They have so many actions on the bodies metabolic processes. Primarily the B group vitamins are enzymes within the body, means that they facilitate the bodies processes, from energy production, to neurotransmitter production, new cell development and detoxification. Look at virtually any process within the body and a B group vitamin is probably involved.

In terms of energy production B vitamins play a role at a cellular level with an emphasis on converting the food that we eat, into energy.

B vitamins are needed in higher amounts if you do a lot of strenuous exercise or have a lot of stress day to day. B vitamins also play a vital role in maintaining a healthy nervous system, so supporting B vitamin levels is important to keep your bodies stress response healthy and able to deal with things that come your way. The more stressed we are the more our energy takes a hit as well, making it doubly important to make sure your B vitamin levels are optimal.

Magnesium

Magnesium is a vital art of energy production within the body. It is also vital for healthy heart function, making sure enough oxygen is being pumped around our body. Without enough magnesium the bodies cells find it had to maintain their proper energy levels. Magnesium, along with sodium , calcium and potassium make up our bodies electrolytes, and these electrolytes are important for maintaining healthy nerve and muscle function. When these electrolytes are out of balance then energy levels are the first thing to suffer.

If you suffer from sore muscles or cramps then Magnesium is something that should be considered. Similarly to B vitamins during times of stress of strenuous exercise Magnesium is needed in higher amounts.

CoQ 10

CoQ10 a staple in terms of energy production. It is found in abundance within the cells mitochondria (the energy centre) and plays a role in the electron transport chain in the production of energy. Without CoQ10 energy product just simply cannot happen. But CoQ10 isn't exactly a nutrient we can get in great amounts from our diets. The body produces its own CoQ10, but sometimes external influences such as medication (think cholesterol statin medication) can block the production. When the body is using up more CoQ10 than it can create that is when a deficiency can also occur and when disease is present that can also lower CoQ10 levels.

Without CoQ10 energy production is very hard, so supporting our bodies levels when it is warranted may make all the difference to your energy levels.
