Matcha: Whats the deal?
Matcha is green tea. But why has it gained so much attention if its just green tea?
Green tea is the green tea leaves which have been infused in hot water, whilst matcha is the green tea leaves that have been ground and then made into a drink, so you are consuming the actual leaf.
Because of this difference the antioxidant capacity of matcha is increased, compared to your normal cup of matcha tea.
Things you should know about matcha:
It contains caffeine
The taste is relatively neutral
You only need a teaspoon, maximum.
Go organic only, non organic varieties have a risk of being contaminated with heavy metals.
You can use it in many ways: smoothies, lattes, raw cooking, protein balls etc.
Always read the ingredients as some matcha can be sweetened.

Like anything, we need to use matcha in moderation. Because of the caffeine content if we have to much then the effects will be more negative then beneficial for our bodies. I would not be having more than one serve per day.
Other benefits of matcha:
Boosts metabolic rate and helps facilitate fat burning
Detoxifying and is rich in chlorophyl
Has cholesterol lowering properties
My favourite way to use matcha
I love using matcha for its caffeine benefits, swapping my morning coffee for some matcha, or pre-workout.
I find i get the greatest benefit from matcha when I combine it with coconut water. The coconut water is nourishing and adding electrolytes to my body such as potasium, calcium and magnesium while the matcha is providing an antioxidant boost and caffeine hit.
Simply mix 1/2 teaspoon of matcha with 1 cup of coconut water, whisk together until fully combined.
