What Type of Fish Should I Be Eating?
Now I could of written a big blog post about the whys and the whats of fish consumption, but instead I have put it into a handy little info graphic below. Print this picture off, stick it on your fridge and next time you wonder what type of fish you should be eating, you will have the answers without lifting a finger.
I often tell patients to increase their fish intake, but the type of fish is just as important. We need to be mindful of heavy metals such as mercury when consuming fish and other seafood so be informed about whats good and whats not takes the guess work out of it.
To be getting a good dose of omega 3, serves of fish per week is a great stating point. Salmon is a fantastic fish which is safe to consume and it is so versatile. Not a fan of Salmon? Then take your pic from the other fish listed at the bottom of the pyramid.
What about fish oil?
Fish oils are prone to heavy metal contamination as well, especially bargain basement products. When I am choosing a fish oil I am only ever using the highest quality product from companies which are transparent about the farming methods, the production, the purification and the freshness of the product.
